The Nnewi City International Marathon Local Organising Committee (LOC) continuing its sensitisation tour, paid a courtesy visit on the Obi Uruagu, Nnewi His Highness Obi Afam Charles Obi Ogidi IV .
At the Obi’s Palace to receive the LOC team led by Mr. Chibuzo Okonkwo, the Initiator of the event, were the President General of Uruagu and his Vice, Chief Innocent Okoli and Hon. Mbazulike Iloka respectively.
Briefing the Obi Uruagu ,Mr Chibuzo Okonkwo the Team Lead who is also the CEO of Maon Homes Ltd. stated that the idea to bring such an important sporting event to Nnewi his home town was a well thought out one. Mr. Okonkwo believes this will gladden the heart of His Highness as the event is bound to positively showcase Nnewi globally as well as bring immediate and long term economic benefits to Nnewi.
He noted that the Obi’s Palace will also serve as a tourist site to the large number of expected visitors to Nnewi during the marathon. The event will, in addition, help promote the rich culture and tradition of Nnewi City.
In his remarks, His Highness Obi Afam Charles Obi, the Obi Uruagu expressed his gratitude to Mr Chibuzo Okonkwo for finding Nnewi worthy of playing host to the International Marathon. He stated that he is not in any doubt about the enormous benefits the event will bring to Nnewi during and after the event.
He therefore assured the NCIM team of his royal blessings and support, assuring them that his Palace will always remain open to them and the tourists the event will attract .
The President General Uruagu Nnewi, Hon Innocent Okoli in his remarks noted that the event is indeed a noble one from Mr Chibuzo Okonkwo. He used the medium to appeal to all Nnewi Indigenes at home and in the diaspora to support the project in anyway they can, particularly by considering a massive homecoming as the event date falls during the festive season.
The LOC Chairman Mr . Chukwunonso Anozie in his remarks thanked the Obi Uruagu for receiving the team and giving his royal blessings. He assured the Obi that the event promises to meet world standard and will live up to the expectations of Nnewi people .
